Myanmar: Barricades to block bridge leading to township under martial law

Description

Protesters have been building barricades on Tuesday near a bridge leading from downtown Yangon to the impoverished Hlaing Thayar township which is under martial law. Sunday was the deadliest day so far in the six weeks since the army deposed Suu Kyi's government, with the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners reporting 74 killed on Sunday after the violent suppression of anti-coup unrest across Myanmar. Many of those deaths came from the Hlaing Tharyar township, a garment-producing area in the commercial hub. IMAGES
