President of the European Council Charles Michel continues talks with EU leaders regarding the proposed longterm budget for the bloc. During a press conference with Belgian PM Alexander de Croo and Polish Pm Donald Tusk, EU chief, Ursula Von der Leyen, announces that aid for Poland frozen over rule-of-law row has now been unblocked. SOUNDBITE
EU Commission spokesperson Anitta Hipper says during a briefing in Brussels that the EU has launched action against Hungary after Budapest passed laws it says are intended to "protect Hungary's sovereignty" and curb foreign influence. SOUNDBITE
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen pledges to find a way around Hungary's block on a 50 billion euro aid package for Ukraine at a summit early next year. "We will have an operational solution" she says, speaking after a crunch EU summit in Brussels where member states agreed to begin membership talks with Kyiv, despite opposition from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. At a press conference following the EU summit, French President Emmanuel Macron says he expects Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban "to behave like a European and not hold political progress hostage". Macron's comments come after Orban, Russia's biggest ally in the EU, blocked the approval of 50 billion euros of aid to Ukraine. SOUNDBITE
