Indian government brings in citizenship law that excludes Muslim immigrants

New Delhi, Dec 9 (EFE).- The Indian government on Monday presented in parliament a controversial bill to give citizenship to religious minorities from neighboring countries, sparking criticism as the proposed amendment to grant nationality based on religion to exclude Muslims goes against the country's secular ethos.With the amendment to the country’s citizenship law introduced in the lower house of parliament, the government of Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi intends to naturalize immigrants from persecuted minorities like Hindus and Christians from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.FOOTAGE OF PROTESTS AGAINST THE BILL ON MONDAY IN KOLKATA, INDIA.
