Over 800 species from all around the world, from the mighty tiger down to tiny meerkats, had their measurements taken for London Zoo’s annual weigh-in.
Scientists say that the deepest parts of our ocean are as mysterious as space and many of the creatures residing in the darkness of the abyss have yet to be discovered by scientists. Occasionally, the ocean decides to surprise us by spewing up one of these rare and mysterious creatures onto the beach so we can puzzle over it. A carcass of one such mysterious giant creature appeared on the shore of Seram Island in Indonesia's Maluku province on Friday, raising the eyebrows of residents and local authorities alike. The bloodied carcass, which is about 50 feet long and 23 feet wide, is speculated to be a giant squid that had died a few days before its discovery. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association writes that humanity has only explored about 5 percent of the world's oceans and that up to 95 percent has never been seen by human eyes. Creatures living in the depth of the oceans can be mysterious and even grotesque, taking very uncommon shapes and sizes. Despite the buzz created by the mysterious mass, the island’s residents are now urging the authorities to remove the remains as they began to rot.
Move over, Mowgli, the real life version of the popular Jungle Book character has been found. Police in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh discovered this eight-year-old girl in the jungles near Bahraich who they believe was raised by a troop of monkeys. However, the real version is quite a bit more sad than the Disney classic. After the girl was taken to hospital, she was found to suffer from behavioural dysfunctions and lacked the ability to speak or interact normally with humans.
These three Belgian Malinois sniffer puppies are anything but ordinary. They shivered as they arrived to the Russian city of Yakutsk on Monday in minus 30 degree Fahrenheit frost as a gift from a laboratory in Seoul, South Korea to the North-Eastern Federal University in Russia's Yakutsk. These three one-year-old pups were cloned from the DNA of the best sniffer dog and became the first ever cloned dogs brought to Russia.
Over 18,000 animals at London Zoo have been weighed and measured as part of an annual survey of the attraction's inhabitants. Saskia O'Donoghue reports.
