A gunman identified by relatives as an Arab citizen of Israel opened fire in a busy area in broad daylight, sparking mayhem on the first day of the new year.
One man was killed and eight other people were injured at an apartment complex in Connecticut during a shooting that took place in the early hours of Thursday morning, according to police.
Police cordon off a high school in northwest Bosnia where three employees were shot dead by a co-worker who then tried to kill himself. The shooting occurred around 10:00 am local time (0800 GMT) in Sanski Most as teachers held a meeting to prepare for the upcoming school year and no students were present, local media reported. Workers and emergency personnel clear the scene following a train crash in Bangladesh which killed at least 17 people and injured 100 others. The crash in the eastern city of Bhairab saw a freight train smash into a passenger train travelling in the opposite direction, derailing two passenger carriages. IMAGES
Fire and emergency crews are on site as the investigation continues into the cause of the fire that according to officials has now killed at least 73 people and left dozens others injured. It is not clear what caused the fire in the five-story building, which broke out overnight. IMAGES
