The brand new, much-anticipated Specialized Tarmac SL7 is finally here. It promises a platform that’s now so fast it’s time to wave goodbye to Specialized's aerodynamic racer, the Venge. The new Tarmac SL7 is a full 45 seconds faster than the previous Tarmac SL6 over 40km, according to Specialized's aerodynamic testing, and yet comes at a complete bike weight of 6.7kg. That's below the UCI minimum. Cyclist Editor-at-Large and veteran bike tester Stu Bowers has had a few weeks with the bike ahead of the launch, and makes his initial judgments on the bike. Developed through CFD and wind tunnel testing at the GST the wind tunnel in Immenstaad in conjunction with SwissSide wheels, the Aeroad claims to be ‘the new benchmark in aerodynamic road bikes’ - saving 7.5 watts over the previous Aeroad. It does all that while weighing only 7.3kgs. Under the skin there's been other impressive developments over the last Aeroad too... Check out our first impressions of Canyon's new flagship racer. The MINI John Cooper Works is quick enough to worry larger hot hatchbacks, just be mindful of the purchase price. The most powerful production MINI you can buy, the MINI John Cooper Works hatchback ups the ante from the Cooper S and serves as the flagship of the range. The other hint to its potency is that it uses the name of one of the biggest influences on the small car's history – John Cooper. The JCW builds on the MINI brand's famous ‘go-kart-like’ handling ability with stiffer and lower suspension than other models and a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine used in the Cooper S.Smaller than a Golf GTI, the JCW is a better match for cars like the Audi S1 and Abarth 595 Competizione – a hot version of the chic Fiat 500 city car. The JCW starts at just over £23,000 – around £2,000 cheaper than the S1, but roughly £2,000 more expensive than the Abarth. And it's a massive £5,500 more than the cheapest version of our favourite small hot hatch, the Ford Fiesta ST.
