Images shot on a phone show fire and smoke billowing from a munitions depot in Crimea, after Russia says a fire set off explosions. The Russian defence ministry said in a statement that a fire erupted around 6:15 am local time (0315 GMT) at a temporary military storage site near the village of Mayskoye in the Dzhankoi district, causing ammunition to detonate. Explosions ring out and smoke rises in the area of Ocheretyne, a village in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region which, according to observers, is now mostly controlled by Russian forces. Four explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv early Sunday, with AFP journalists reporting a residential complex near the centre of the city had been hit, causing a fire and cloud of grey smoke. The blasts occurred around 6:30 am (0330 GMT), half an hour after air raid sirens sounded in the capital, which has not not come under Russian bombardment for nearly three weeks. Ukrainian security forces cordon off areas of the capital Kyiv on Sunday after several explosions struck the city. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the blasts were caused by "missile strikes on infrastructure". IMAGES
