French President Emmanuel Macron arrives for the funeral of Chad leader Idriss Deby, who ruled the country with an iron fist for 30 years but was a key ally in that fight against Islamist insurgents. The funeral of Chadian president Idriss Deby Itno, who the authorities say died this week after fighting rebels, began in the capital Ndjamena on Friday. His coffin, draped in the national flag and surrounded by troops from the elite Presidential Guard, was driven on the back of a pickup truck to the Place de la Nation square for ceremonies attended by foreign leaders including French President Emmanuel Macron. Attendees are seated and the last preparations are being made on Independence square in the capital of Chad N’Djamena ahead of the ceremony in honour of president Idriss Deby. Deby died Monday aged 68 following wounds inflicted battling rebels. IMAGES
