The United States has ordered China to close its consulate in Houston and accused it of ramping up spying operations, dramatically escalating diplomatic tensions between the feuding superpowers. An American citizen, John Clancey, working for a law firm known for taking on human rights cases, was among those arrested in Hong Kong on Wednesday under a new national security law imposed by Beijing.
