On Monday, the U.S. Senate began confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett to join the U.S. Supreme Court. Former Vice President Joe Biden said Barrett's confirmation hearings are "unconstitutional." However, according to CNN, Biden is wrong. "Legal experts say there is nothing strictly unconstitutional about Barrett's confirmation process." Josh Blackman, a South Texas College of Law professor who specializes in constitutional law, told CNN, "I have no idea what VP Biden meant." "The Constitution gives the Senate the power to hold a hearing." "There is nothing unconstitutional about confirming Judge Barrett."
President Donald Trump on Saturday aimed a large dose of spleen at the US Supreme Court. According to Business Insider, Trump's latest outburst stems from his loss to now President-elect Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Trump and his campaign's legal team have so far lost all attempts made at reversing the election result. Trump said he had 'PROOF' of widespread fraud in the 2020 election, but did not provide any such evidence. During his tenure, Trump successfully nominated three justices to the court: Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett in 2020. But now, he counts them among the rest of the Supreme Court justices as 'totally incompetent' and 'weak.'
Judge Amy Coney Barrett is to be the next Supreme Court Justice, filling the seat left by the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Business Insider reports the Senate on Monday voted to confirm Coney Barrett along party lines in a 52-48 vote. Only one Republican, US Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, voted against Barrett's nomination. The 48-year-old was confirmed just eight days before Election Day, and to vociferous opposition from Senate Democrats. Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Thursday he spent 7 days in an ICU before recovering from COVID-19. CNN reports Christie issued a statement detailing the severity of his case. It also urged people to take the pandemic seriously. Christie had coached President Donald Trump multiple times for his first debate with Democratic challenger Joe Biden. Christie tested positive a day after Trump announced he and first lady Melania Trump had both tested positive for the virus. Christie sheepishly admitted he'd made a mistake in choosing to believe the White House was a safe place, and regretted not wearing a mask at a Rose Garden event.
