A 45-year-old man is accused of rape, attempted rape and sexual assault in the forest of Sénart between 1995 and 2000. He was arrested in 2015, 20 years after the first events, thanks to his DNA. Nicolas Sarkozy is back at Paris Court House this Friday to answer questions in his appeal trial about illegal campaign financing during his 2012 failed re-election bid. The Former head of state was sentenced to one year's imprisonment in 2021 in what has been dubbed the "Bygmalion case". Conservative Sarkozy has faced a litany of legal problems since his one term in office from 2007 until 2012, and has been charged separately with corruption, bribery, influence-peddling, and breaking campaign financing laws. Rapist and murderer Thabo Bester and his alleged lover Nandipha Magudumana appear virtually at a court hearing in Bloemfontein, as their trial is postponed until the 20th of June 2023 for "further police investigations". Dubbed the "Facebook rapist", Bester was sentenced to life in prison in 2012. Last year, he broke out of jail and left a burnt corpse in his cell. He was arrested in April 2023 by Tanzanian police along with Magudumana, a celebrity doctor and social media influencer, who is suspected to have helped him escape from jail. IMAGES
