Sochi's Fisht Olympic Stadium Ready for FIFA 2018 World Cup

Description

This gigantic building is called the Fisht Stadium and it's one of the latest large scale construction projects to finish ahead of schedule in preparation for the 2018 World Cup. Located in Sochi's Olympic Park right next to the water of the Black Sea, the Fisht Stadium looks almost ready to host games for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Workers in the Russian Black Sea resort city are putting the finishing touches on the stadium as well as other tourist, transport, and sport facilities in anticipation of the big tournament. However, Sochi won't be hosting one of the world's most anticipated sporting events without any rehearsal. In fact, Sochi is one of four cities chosen to host the 2017 Confederations Cup, which will take place this summer. Eight teams from different tournaments will vie for the Confederations Cup crown, including Russia, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Cameroon, Chile, and Portugal. Games will also be held in Kazan, Moscow, and Saint Petersburg. The 2017 Confederations Cup will actually be like a miniature dress rehearsal for the main event the following summer, and all buildings, infrastructure objects, and service staff will use the Confederations Cup to make sure their performance will be at their best. The 2018 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Russia from June 14 to July 15. A total of 64 matches will be played in 12 venues located in 11 cities across Russia, with the final set to take place in Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Russia has used the upcoming sports festival as a pretext to push forward major infrastructure and transport upgrades as well as several major large scale stadium contruction and renovation projects.
