The all-new Hispano Suiza Carmen makes its global debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, signalling the resurgence of an iconic Spanish luxury car brand. Designed, developed and manufactured in Barcelona, the fully-electric Carmen is a ‘hyperlux’ grand touring car – the ultimate expression of classically-inspired design, cutting edge chassis and powertrain technology, exhilarating power and expertly-engineered dynamics. It pioneers a new ‘hyperlux’ vehicle segment – one that combines hypercar performance with exquisite luxury, painstaking craftsmanship and meticulous attention to technical and engineering details. A genuinely unique proposition, and a fitting tribute to an iconic Spanish car brand. The Hispano Suiza Carmen will cost from €1.5m (plus taxes), and only 19 examples of the Carmen will be produced from late 2019 until 2021. Road testing begins in mid-2019, with the first media drives in October. Prospective customers can now register their interest to purchase one of the exclusive Carmen models, ahead of its official customer launch date in June 2020.
A pair of unique blue and pink diamond earrings on show at Sotheby's auction house in Geneva, reportedly the most valuable earrings ever to go under the hammer, are expected to fetch between $50 to 70 million. The diamonds were named after Apollo, the Greek god of of the Sun, and Artemis, his twin sister, the goddess of the moon. The 14.54-carat Apollo Blue, which is described by Sotheby's as the largest internally flawless vivid blue diamond ever to be offered at auction, is expected to fetch between $38 million and $50 million. The 16-carat Artemis Pink, with its "fancy, intense pink" hue, is expected to rake in 12.5-18 million dollars. If the combined price of both Apollo and Artemis reaches the max estimate of 70 million, these two precious stones will cost 50 times more money the average American makes in an entire lifetime. The earrings will be offered separately as individual lots at auction on May 16.
The Volkswagen Group is opening its Modular Electric Toolkit (MEB) developed in recent years to other manufacturers. The purpose is to achieve a significant reduction in the cost of e-mobility through the widest possible deployment of the MEB and the associated economies of scale, thus enabling broad access to individual mobility to continue in future. The Volkswagen Group is currently projecting a first wave of some 15 million pure electric vehicles based on the MEB. e.GO Mobile AG based in Aachen, Germany, is to be the world’s first external partner to use the electric platform to launch further electric vehicles in addition to Volkswagen’s model range. A dedicated vehicle project is already being planned. Volkswagen is highlighting the MEB’s variability even for small series with the ID. BUGGY on show at the Geneva International Motor Show. Based on the MEB, we will make individual mobility CO2-neutral, safe, comfortable and accessible to as many people as possible. The McLaren Senna GTR was unveiled to the public at the Geneva International Motor Show in the Palexpo convention centre on Tuesday. Inspired by Formula 1 icon Ayrton Senna, the $1million supercar is made of lightweight carbon fibre and comes in five colours, including the same yellow and green scheme used by Senna. Each Senna GTR takes over 1,000 hours to produce, which contributes to the eye-watering price tag.
The United States "will not accept" a situation where underpriced Chinese goods flood the global market, battering industries elsewhere, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Monday as she wrapped up high-level talks in China.
