Il y a une astuce pour les distinguer. L'étoile filante est un phénomène très bref qui ne dure qu'une fraction de seconde à quelques secondes pour les plus remarquables. Le satellite lui met plusieurs minutes à traverser la voûte céleste. Et sur une photo, comment faire la différence? Il faut regarder la longueur de la traînée lumineuse. Si la traînée traverse la voûte céleste en entier ou en partie, c'est sûrement un satellite. Si la traînée est courte, localisée dans une zone du ciel, c'est probablement une étoile filante !
