The OECD raises its global economic growth forecast for 2024, driven by strong performances in the United States and emerging countries while Europe lags behind. The US economy -- the world's biggest -- is now expected to expand 2.6 percent in 2024, up from the 2.1 percent previously expected. But the OECD expects timid growth of 0.7 percent in the eurozone, slightly better than the 0.6 percent previously expected. SOUNDBITE
The EU sharply cut its eurozone growth forecast for 2024, Commissioner for the Economy Paolo Gentiloni says. Gentiloni says the European Commission predicts the single-currency economic area to grow by 0.8 percent in 2024, down from a previous forecast of 1.2 percent. SOUNDBITE
The International Monetary Fund slightly raises its forecast for 2023 US economic growth. "The US economy has proven resilient, consumer demand has held up particularly well, initially boosted by a drawdown of pent up savings, and more recently by solid growth in real disposable income. This is good news," says IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva. SOUNDBITE
As the European Commission boosts its 2023 forecast for growth in the Eurozone by 0.2 points to 1.1 percent on Monday whilst revising its inflation forecast higher to 5.8 percent, the bloc's commissioner for the economy Paolo Gentiloni warns the factors behind the diverging forecasts are currently moving "in opposite directions." European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde announces that ECB decided to raise its inflation forecasts, with consumer price growth now seen reaching 8.4 percent for 2022 before easing slightly to 6.3 percent next year. By 2024, inflation should average 3.4 percent before reaching 2.3 percent in 2025. SOUNDBITE
