Tesla once again took second place, but an increasingly crowded field is quickly encroaching. Autopilot outpaced competitors in capabilities and performance, but sank to the bottom for categories like driver engagement and clarity around safety. According to the managing director of Audi Electronics, the Apple and Android "connected car" solutions are not for you. While speaking with Mashable Peter Steiner clarified that the two network systems are limited by their reliance on Google Maps. Steiner added that built-in navigation and cloud mapping technologies for in-dash electronics can't be replaced Google. Specifically, Audi, BMW and Diamler teamed up to buy Nokia's HERE mapping services for exactly this purpose. And as far as those car brands are concerned, their system is far more accurate, up-to-date and robust than anything Apple or Google offer.
