Israel's defense minister has ordered a “complete siege” on the Gaza Strip following an unprecedented incursion into Israel by Hamas fighters. Israel formally declared war on Sunday and gave the green light for “significant military steps” to retaliate against Hamas for Saturday’s surprise attack. More than 1,100 people have been killed and thousands wounded on both sides. The defense minister's announcement on Monday came as Israel’s military scoured the country’s south for Hamas fighters and guarded breaches in its border fence with tanks while pounding Gaza from the air. A spokesperson said the Israeli military regained control of border communities taken by Hamas fighters during the attack. But Palestinian militants continued firing barrages of rockets, setting off air raid sirens in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. With the Hamas attack sending shockwaves across the world and Israel vowing a severe military retaliation, FRANCE 24's Nadia Massih is joined by Major (retired) General Giora Eiland, former Director of the National Security Council and former Head of the Planning Department of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
There are very few filmmakers who have as much experience with massive science-fiction as Gareth Edwards, who we recently interviewed through our partnership with AMC Theatres, where tickets for the movie are on sale. After getting his start on the lower-budget, 2010 creature feature "Monsters," Edwards graduated to Hollywood storytelling with the 2014 resuscitation of "Godzilla." And that film ended up being so impressive, Lucasfilm came calling with an offer to tackle a Star Wars film. The end result, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," still is considered by many Star Wars fans to be one of the finest movies made in the post-prequel era. Sci-fi fans couldn’t wait to see what he did next. But the wait ended up taking longer than expected. Gareth Edwards follows up "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" with The Creator (in theaters September 29), and the film already is generating raves worthy of a Star Wars successor. The film tackles the complicated topic of Artificial Intelligence and finds John David Washington tracking the development of a weapon that actually looks like a child (played by Madeleine Yuna Voyles). When we got the chance to sit down with Edwards and discuss the creation of "The Creator," he opened up about making the movie on his own terms. #thecreator #garethedwards #movies SUBSCRIBE to CinemaBlend's channel HERE - https://www.youtube.com/cinemablend For the latest entertainment news and analysis go here: Movie News: http://www.cinemablend.com/news.php/ Movie Reviews: http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/ TV News: http://www.cinemablend.com/television/ Celebrity News: http://www.cinemablend.com/pop/ Superheroes: http://www.cinemablend.com/superheroes/ Movie Trailers & Film Clips: http://www.cinemablend.com/trailers/
Forecast to be the most intense in decades, the El Niño climate phenomenon is back and is expected to put wildlife on the Galapagos Islands at risk. Bringing with it rising sea temperatures and heavy rains, El Niño could leave marine animals without food and threaten their reproductive success. The phenomenon occurs on average every two to seven years, and episodes typically last nine to 12 months.
