China Using Army of Chickens to Battle Locust Swarms

Description

China’s northwest region of Xinjiang is using chickens to battle incoming locust swarms. Officials say one chicken can catch over 600 locusts a day and can cover 1.2 acres of grassland. The country is predicting higher than normal incidents of locust swarms for Xinjiang this year. Back in 2000, China amassed a 700,000-strong army of chickens and ducks for the same purpose.
