On Thursday, IBM stock surged. The boost to the stock came after it announced plans to spin off its legacy managed infrastructure business. IBM plans to solely focus on building up its cloud division. The spinoff is expected to be tax-free for IBM shareholders and will be completed by the end of 2021, the company said. "IBM is laser-focused on the $1 trillion hybrid cloud opportunity," IBM CEO Arvind Krishna said. Business Insider reports that IBM also released preliminary third quarter earnings results.
23 Audi employees in a co-working space in Berlin are developing business models that very rarely have anything to do with cars. Eight Audi employees who live in Berlin permanently are supported by 15 other employees visiting in six-month cycles. At the end of the cycle, these employees then return to their original positions and functions at the various company sites. It is the task of the cross-functional teams to implement a verified business model within these six months through customer-focused development and cooperation with start-ups.
A Silicon Valley based firm called Lucid Motors unveiled their high-end electric vehicle prototype dubbed Lucid Air, in Fremont, California, on Wednesday. The new company hopes to tap into the growing popularity of electric cars and aims to challenge Elon Musk's automaker Tesla for electric vehicle customers. Lucid Motors claim that their Air prototype electric car has a range of over 400 miles on a single charge and can go from 0 to 60 in 2.5 second. A 100 kilowatt engine will generate up to 1,000 horsepower. Loaded with options, the Lucid Air is expected to hit the market sometime in 2018 at a luxury price point of around $100,000.
Berlin is looking to profit from the UK's vote to leave the European Union by tempting companies away from London. As Sonia Legg reports, the city is setting its sights on tech and fintech start-ups, hoping fears about post-Brexit Britain will make the German capital an attractive place to set up shop.
