Low oil prices hit BP profits

Description

Oil major BP has reported lower profits and says it will cut spending on exploration because of the fall in oil prices. But as Hayley Platt reports a surprise contribution from its stake in Rosneft helped it beat forecasts.

    Research led by a team at the University of Georgia shows that the chemical agents used to remove oil from the ocean’s surface after the 2010 BP oil spill didn’t fully degrade the oil and instead suppressed microbes in the water that would have been more effective in cleaning up the oil.
