Bangkok, Jan 15 (EFE/EPA).- A quirky Japanese restaurant in the Thai capital, Bangkok, decided to let dancing robots wait its tables in a bid to attract customers who wish to limit human contact. Thailand's first Japanese robot restaurant Hajime, where the serving waiters are robots, has been operating since 2010, serving Japanese food shabu, yakiniku and sushi. Newser reports the FBI has just announced the arrest of a suspect believed to be the 'Con Queen of Hollywood.' Hargobind Tahilramani would impersonate prominent women in the industry and pitch bogus projects to actors and Hollywood gig workers. In turn, they would shell out cash on the promise of being reimbursed. For instance, Gregory Mandarano was duped into traveling to Indonesia multiple times in 2015, believing he was working with a rep from the legit China Film Group. Instead, he lost about $70,000 paying for drivers, translators, and 'fixers,' which was never reimbursed. Among others, Tahilramani posed as Kathleen Kennedy of Lucasfilm, former Paramount boss Sherry Lansing, and Rupert Murdoch's ex-wife, Wendi Deng.
With so much emphasis on STEM in school curricula these days, it's easy to think that 'soft skills' are no longer needed for a successful, high-paying career. Long-distance couples forced to Netflix and chill alone may soon have an alternate way to be with their loved ones thanks to a new robot created by scientists at Tyumen State University. The robot, called Avatar-S, is remotely controlled by a user through sensors which transmit all sorts of data. Avatar-S users put on a special helmet that transmits sound and 3D images from the robot's camera and microphone and special gloves which send tactile sensations gathered from touch sensors.
