Maserati is back. The Autodromo Varano de’ Melegari was the setting for the track debut of the high-performance GT2, the car that epitomises the House of the Trident’s return to racing. The shakedown at the Parma circuit is the precursor to a series of events marking the run-up to the official unveiling of the car at the end of June in Belgium, at the 24 Hours of Spa.Maserati is ready to reawaken the memories that saw it feature in the exciting GT championships, with a hungry new car designed to evoke the exploits of its forerunner, the glorious and victorious MC12.The Trident’s history in motorsport is a story of successes spanning almost a century, of a unique and distinctive DNA, and of a passion being rekindled by the brand’s link with the potent legacy from the past and its drive towards the future, in which racing is an essential component.Maserati GT2 is speed, elegance, style and innovation incarnate. A car designed to be a masterpiece of performance: extraordinary and breathtaking between the kerbs, created to celebrate Maserati’s return to the circuits. A new chapter begun in late 2022 with the announcement of its participation in the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, complemented by its inclusion in the GT2 European Series, as part of the strategy developed to bring the Trident back on track.Conceived and designed by Maserati engineering in tandem with the Centro Stile Maserati, to ensure the aesthetic quality standards typical of the brand, the Maserati GT2 inherits the extraordinary 463kW/630CV Nettuno V6 engine from the Maserati MC20, taking it to a higher level.
The Maserati GT2 is the Trident's passport to the future of motorsport, based on the glorious memories of its winning ancestor, the Maserati MC12, which left its enduring signature on the FIA GT championships in the first decade of the new millennium.The natural evolution of a sensational racing car from the past, it now comes with a 90° twin-turbo V6 heart based on the MC20 Nettuno engine, to become a one-of-a-kind Maserati supercar.The Maserati GT2 combines the sporting history of the Trident with the extreme competition attitude that has always characterized its racing and road cars.It all started with the Maserati Tipo 26, the first racing car with the Trident emblem on the bonnet, which took first place in its category in the 1926 Targa Florio. The Maserati Head of Design led the audience on a voyage of discovery of the beauty and spirit of the GranCabrio Folgore, which for its debut sported the exclusive Liquid Rose Gold colour, Titan Grey soft top and sophisticated Denim and Ice interiors, with contrasting stitching – a jewel of the Maserati Fuoriserie customisation programme. He told the story of the car's distinctive features, from its captivating design and amazing performance to the unmistakable signature of the Folgore sound and the incredible tech specs derived from Formula E cars, shared with Maserati for mass production.Alongside a group of representatives from the Maserati Family, Maserati's Chief Executive Officer then took the reins of the show for the final farewell, thanking the guests for coming and bearing witness to Maserati's new electric future. Recalling how the thunderous, harmonious encounter and clash between art and science has for centuries generated and inspired the search for excellence inherent in the Italian DNA, and how the same impetus has always featured in Maserati's work and spirit, Davide Grasso noted that there could be no Maserati without Italy, even in the new electric chapter of the brand’s history, as he officially welcomed in the new era.Folgore is the voice of Maserati's future, a thunder that infuses new energy and ignites the future of the brand.
