Associates at the Indiana Auto Plant (IAP) today celebrated the start of mass production of the all-new 2022 Civic Hatchback at the Greensburg plant. Honda has built Civic models in America since 1986, but this is the first time the Civic Hatchback has been built in the U.S.A $50.2 million investment in IAP helped prepare the facility for mass production of the all-new version of Civic. The investment includes a building expansion for laser braze technology for the roof of the Civic Hatchback, the latest new model for the plant. Other new processes include a major increase in the use of high-performance structural adhesives for improved body rigidity and the application of acoustic spray foam to the Civic body structure for the first time for enhanced cabin quietness. IAP started production operations by building the Honda Civic in October 2008. As the first Honda plant in the U.S. to build the 2022 Civic Hatchback, this all-new model represents yet another production first for the Greensburg plant. IAP also was the first Honda plant in the U.S. to build the Acura ILX (2012), Honda Insight (2019) and CR-V Hybrid (2020).
Production of All-New 2023 Honda CR-V Begins in North America
Launched to international acclaim last year, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R continues to garner awards and accolades – the latest being the retaking of the production vehicle front-wheel drive (FWD) lap record at the infamous 12.92-mile (20.8km) Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.On 24 March, 2023, members from the Civic Type R’s development team completed a 7 minute 44:881 second lap around the daunting German circuit – nicknamed ‘The Green Hell’ – making it the fastest production specification FWD vehicle. This time was set on the revised, now longer (20.8km), track layout as defined by circuit management in 2019.

AAP also has begun production of the first Honda TrailSport models — Passport TrailSport and Pilot TrailSport — both built exclusively in Alabama. The new halo for Honda light trucks, TrailSport highlights the off-road capability, versatility and durability that has long been engineered into Honda light trucks.The new Passport TrailSport combines Passport's strong unibody construction, independent front and rear suspension, and available class-leading torque-vectoring AWD system with TrailSport exclusive exterior and interior styling. TrailSport features include a unique grille, 18-inch black alloy wheels, tires sporting a rugged sidewall, and the distinctive orange-on-black TrailSport badge on the grille and tailgate.Honda associates at the Alabama Auto Plant have been producing the Honda Passport since its return to the lineup in 2018. In addition to Passport and Pilot, the plant is also the exclusive global production source for the Honda Odyssey minivan and the Honda Ridgeline pickup truck.
Honda revealed the 2022 Civic Hatchback tonight, the latest addition to the all-new 11th-generation Civic lineup. Building on the 2022 Civic Sedan that arrived in Honda dealerships earlier this month, the most fun-to-drive Civic Hatchback ever combines striking, Euro-inspired exterior styling and five-door versatility with an even sportier driving experience. Available with a 6-speed manual transmission, Civic Hatchback is designed to meet the needs of young, active buyers. It will be built in the U.S. for the first time, with production to begin later this year atHonda's Greensburg, Indiana auto plant.
