McLaren Automotive serves up 'bucket list' track experience for tennis ace Hubi Hurkacz

Description

Most car enthusiasts have a ‘hero poster’ on their bedroom walls as they grow up. For ATP tennis star, Hubert (Hubi) Hurkacz, who heads to the US Open Championships this week, it was the iconic McLaren P1TM hypercar – specifically P1 OOV, which is still part of McLaren’s own heritage fleet – that took pride of place and drove his childhood dreams at home in Wroclaw, Poland.Teaming up with McLaren Beverly Hills and its O’Gara Motorsports division at The Thermal Club, a private, member’s only track in California, McLaren, The Americas managed to bring Hubi’s ‘bucket list’ wish to life by giving him a day of expert tuition behind the wheel of the McLaren 765LT Spider.Instead of hitting serves at over 150mph, the tennis ace was able to get behind the wheel of the pinnacle of ‘Longtail’ performance and experience similar speeds as he pushed the supercar to the limits around the desert track.

  • Volkswagen Plug-In Hybrid Experience Days Norway 2021 Track Design

From January 1, 2022, the funding guidelines in Germany for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) will be tightened. The six Volkswagen models that are currently offered with a combination of electric motor and combustion engine already meet the requirements of the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) that will apply from 2022. Customers will therefore continue to be entitled to a promotional bonus of up to 6,750 euros when purchasing a Golf eHybrid, Golf GTE, Tiguan eHybrid, Arteon eHybrid, Arteon Shooting Brake eHybrid and Passat GTE Variant. In order to continue to be eligible, plug-in hybrids may either emit a maximum of 50 grams of CO2 per kilometer from 2022 or must have a purely electrical minimum range of 60 kilometers (according to WLTP) - previously only 40 kilometers were necessary. "We think it makes sense to adjust the current subsidy, because with the plug-in hybrid, customers can fall back on an important transition technology that brings together the advantages of both systems," says Klaus Zellmer, Member of the Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and After Sales at Volkswagen. “Our plug-in hybrid models that can currently be ordered already meet the stricter requirements that will apply from the beginning of 2022.” In addition to the pure purchase bonus, Klaus Zellmer also suggests the inclusion of user behavior in future funding scenarios. “It is important to use the advantages of the electric motor, especially in short-distance operation. With additional incentives, environmentally conscious behavior can be promoted even more actively and the change to sustainable mobility accelerated. "
