Prime Minister Narendra Modi says India's successful Moon mission will open new avenues for other countries seeking to unravel the mysteries of the Earth's only natural satellite. Chandrayaan-3, "Mooncraft" in Sanskrit, touched down on the lunar surface on on August 23, making India the first nation to land an unmanned craft near the largely unexplored lunar south pole.
India's Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft has landed on the moon, making the country the fourth nation ever to accomplish such a feat.
NASA isn’t the only space agency focussed on missions to the Moon. Later this week, the Russian space agency, Roscosmos, will launch its own lunar landing vehicle.
India launches a rocket seeking to land an unmanned spacecraft on the surface of the Moon, its second attempt to become only the fourth country to do so.
India on Friday sent its Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft on a mission to land on the moon, hoping to join the three other countries that have managed the feat. Comparatively, though, India's quest has a considerably lower budget, with a price tag of $74.6 million. The launch comes at a time of growing opportunities in the space industry, and according to an Indian minister, the country's space sector is on a trajectory to become a trillion-dollar economy in the coming years.
