India's Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft has landed on the moon, making the country the fourth nation ever to accomplish such a feat.
India launcheS a bid to become a leading space power, sending up a rocket to put a craft on the surface of the Moon in what it called a "historic day" for the nation.
The Indian Space Research organisation unveils a spacecraft which is expected to take off for the moon next month, which would make the country only the fourth to achieve the feat. It will be launched from Sriharikota space centre on July 15 and is expected to land near the lunar South Pole on September 6.
Whilst India made history with its Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission, and became the first country to soft land on the moon’s unexplored South Pole, it wasn’t the only thing to takeoff…A surge of misinformation surrounding the space operation has also taken off since the initial landing, with false imagery circulating across the internet. Prime Minister Narendra Modi says India's successful Moon mission will open new avenues for other countries seeking to unravel the mysteries of the Earth's only natural satellite. Chandrayaan-3, "Mooncraft" in Sanskrit, touched down on the lunar surface on on August 23, making India the first nation to land an unmanned craft near the largely unexplored lunar south pole.
