The United States is working to facilitate another deal on the release of hostages seized by Hamas and held in Gaza, but "imminent developments" are unlikely, the White House says. "We are hopeful about the progress but I do not expect, we should not expect any imminent developments," US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby tells reporters at a press briefing. The White House denies that the unfreezing of $6 billion of Iranian funds to help secure the release of five US citizens was effectively a ransom payment. "This is not a payment of any kind. It's not ransom," says White House national security spokesman John Kirby, pushing back against criticism of the deal. SOUNDBITE
The White House expresses concern over unrest in Northern Ireland and calls for calm. "We are concerned by the violence in Northern Ireland," says Press Secretary Jen Psaki, adding that Washington joins calls for "calm" after days of violence in the British province. SOUNDBITE
