After the prayer, meat from an animal that was sacrificed was distributed to local residents.The festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael as a sign of submission to Allah, and coincides with the Hajj, the yearly Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest place in Islam.Along with prayers, devotees also participate in sacrificial rites of animals during Eid al-Adha, which is also known as the Festival of Sacrifice.Indonesia is home to the world's largest Muslim population, with over 87 percent of its more than 260.5 million residents adhering to Islam.
