La guerre entre la Russie et l’Ukraine a propulsé les achats de drones de combats et, dans la foulée, les moyens pour s’en défendre. L’armée britannique a annoncé fin juin l’achat de plusieurs centaines de systèmes de contrôle tir SMASH auprès de la société israélienne Smart Shooter, rapporte le média spécialisé The Defense Post le 28 juin 2023. Ce viseur intelligent permet de cibler un drone avec un fusil d’assaut et promet au tireur de le faire tomber en un tir jusqu’à 250 mètres d’altitude. Le soldat accroche le dispositif sur son arme comme une lunette de visée classique. Si un drone est détecté, un carré va automatiquement suivre l’appareil, informant le militaire sur la distance avec l’appareil. Le viseur signalera le moment optimal pour abattre le drone. Ce système peut rester verrouillé sur sa cible même si l’opérateur ou le drone ennemi se déplace.
