Chinese students develop a microbial fuel cell that can generate 80 hours of electricity by adding a spoonful of sugar. Sharon Reich reports.
This portable hydrogen fuel cell prototype could be the next generation of portable chargers for phones, laptops and other electronic devices. Called HandyPower, the new fuel were tested at the Institute of High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences. HandyPower is resident at Skolkovo Innovation Centre and is financed by the Fund for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises (FASIE).
South Korean tech giant Samsung announced that it would be permanently stopping production of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. The decision to cease production came after reports that the devices were unsafe and had been catching fire. Owners of the phone are expected to be able to get a refund or exchange it for another Samsung phone. Samsung already made a voluntary global recall of 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 phones in September, in response to reports which claimed that the batteries caught fire.
Toyota showcased its hydrogen fuel cell vehicle for the mass market, called the Mirai, at the 2016 San Francisco Auto Show last November.
