Mexican collective helps murdered and disappeared women’s children to attend virtual classes

Description

Guadalajara (Mexico), Oct 29 (EFE), (Camera: José Luis González).- A feminist collective and other organizations in the Mexican city of Guadalajara provide electronic devices and school supplies so that the children of victims of femicide and disappearance can take virtual classes. The Latin American and Caribbean Committee for the Defense of Women's Rights (CLADEM) together with citizen volunteers intend to collect at least 200 tablets, 'laptops', cell phones, televisions and desktop computers, Moisés Catedral, lawyer and volunteer tells Efe. SOUNDBITES OF MOISÉS CATEDRAL, LAWYER AND VOLUNTEER:"Most families are in economic need because all of a sudden the children become orphans since their mothers are killed and they also lose their father when he is the murder. Uncles or grandparents, the ones who normally take care of them, suddenly have four, five minors to raise, apart from those who they already had. Or, in case they didn't have children before, when the mother has died they are forced to take full responsibility of these children."
