Disney’s Mulan movie faces controversy and boycott

Shanghai, Sep 9 (EFE/EPA).- Disney’s newest movie Mulan draws media attention and controversy after the leading actress Liu Yifei showed her suppport for the Hong Kong police and the crackdown of protestors. The movie was boycotted in Hong Kong and is set to premiere in Chinese theatres on Sep. 11, although pirated copies have already been made available online.     "Mulan" is now available to watch on Disney Plus as part of a regular subscription without an extra fee. The movie originally debuted as a Premier Access title. The cost of the movie is $29.99. That's in addition to the price of a Disney Plus membership. On October 6, Disney also made "Mulan" available for purchase from Amazon, Vudu, FandangoNow, and other digital retailers. Disney Plus costs $6.99 per month, or $69.99 per year for an annual plan.

    Newser reports the charges against disgraced Hollywood mogul and sex offender Harvey Weinstein continue to pile up. Los Angeles Country prosecutors say Weinstein was charged Friday with the rape of two more women. The district attorney's office says the charges include three counts of rape and three counts of forcible oral copulation involving the two women. Tallied up, Weinstein is now charged with 11 felony counts in Los Angeles County, involving five women. The 68-year-old is serving a 23-year prison sentence in New York on convictions for rape and sexual assault against two women.
