The next version of Apple's streaming box will be compatible with Bluetooth game controllers. According to a report from 9-to-5-Mac, the box will support third-party manufactured peripherals. That will pave Apple's way towards the revenue from the recent popularity in mobile gaming on streaming devices. Such as Google's Android TV and Amazon's Fire TV, The company is also expected to introduce the press to the new Apple TV next week during an event in San Francisco. The new package reportedly ships with an enhanced remote control, that can be used as a game controller, but in limited capacity.
If, by some freak of nature, you were actually born not as a flesh-and-blood baby human, but as plastic-and-circuitry remote control, I'd be getting worried if I were you. Not for being a crime against all biological reason but as, thanks to the ever-growing presence of voice activated assistants, you're about to go the way of the dodo. That's a long (and, admittedly weird) way of teeing up the fact that Amazon has finally seen fit to allow all Alexa devices – whether it's an Echo, Echo Dot, Fire tablet or other – to control Fire TV devices through voice commands.
Amazon is a giant in e-commerce, and it’s throwing its weight around today. In an email to marketplace sellers, Amazon says it will stop sales of streaming devices from Apple and Google by October 29. They don’t work with Amazon Instant Video. According to the email, the sales ban covers the Apple TV, Chromecast, and Nexus Player. “Over the last three years, Prime Video has become an important part of Prime. It’s important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion. Roku, XBOX, PlayStation and Fire TV are excellent choices.”
Want to buy the new Chromecast or the upcoming Apple TV? You won't be able to get them from Amazon. As first reported by Bloomberg, Amazon is planning on dropping streaming devices that don't work with its Prime Video streaming service as of Oct. 29. According to Bloomberg, Amazon sent an email to its marketplace sellers letting them know that no new listings for Apple TV or Chromecast products would be allowed and that existing listings would be removed as of Oct. 29.
Heads up, Geek readers! Amazon’s homepage exploded this morning, showering the Internet with new hardware. They’ve got four new tablets and three new members of the Fire TV family. First up is the Fire. No Kindle, mind you… just Fire. It’s the dirt-cheap tablet we saw leaked a few days ago, and Amazon says it “sets a new standard for a tablet under $50.” By under $50, they mean $49.99. It features a quad-core 1.3GHz processor, a 1024 x 600 display, front and rear-facing cameras, and 8GB of internal storage. Amazon has also thoughtfully included a micro SD slot for expansion. Amazon also introduced two new Fire HD tablets, Fire Kids Edition, and new Fire TV devices.
