The common parasite Toxoplasma gondii is spread to people through undercooked pork and occasionally domestic cats. Chronic T. gondii infections are linked to an increased risk of schizophrenia, lowered cognition, and behavioral changes like more risk-taking and aggression. Now, scientists say the parasite might have more insidious health effects than previously suspected. Gizmodo reports new research suggests a link between Toxoplasma gondii infection and an increased risk of gliomas, the most common form of brain cancer. The US sees 24,000 new cases of brain cancer annually, while 11% of Americans over age six carry T. gondii--upwards of 30 million people. So even if the connection is real, the chances of getting brain cancer as a result of chronic T. gondii infection are very low on an individual level.
A new study has identified a link between stress hormones and the recurrence of cancer. UPI reports the findings may explain why cancers can return long after seemingly being cured with chemotherapy or surgery. The study showed stress hormones and immune cells called neutrophils may awaken dormant cancer cells and cause tumors to regrow -- even after treatment -- according to a study published Wednesday by Science Translational Medicine. Tumor recurrence may be facilitated by common stress. Study co-author Dr. Dmitry Gabrilovich Chief Scientist, AstraZeneca Stress hormones such as cortisol have been linked with an increased risk for a number of health problems. Elevated levels of these hormones can increase a person's heart rate and lead to rises in blood pressure. Because of this, it can lead to insomnia, robbing the body of needed sleep, and mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression.

Republican Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia is making a run for the Senate. He faces stiff competition from Sen. Kelly Loeffler and Democratic challenger Rafael Warnock, who has a significant edge over both GOP candidates. Now, Business Insider reports Collins has appointed Roger Stone as a campaign surrogate. The longtime GOP operative--and ardent ally of President Donald Trump--will campaign for Collins next week. Stone was imprisoned on charges of obstructing a congressional probe into 2016 election interference. However, his prison sentence was commuted by Trump in July.
