Brazil Top Prosecutor Challenges President Temer's Christmas Pardons

Description

On Wednesday, Brazil's top prosecutor launched a legal challenge against pardons made by President Michel Temer before Christmas. Prosecutor General Raquel Dodge alleged the pardons are unconstitutional and threaten the Car Wash probe into the country’s largest-ever corruption scandal. Traditional pardons are usually handed out during Christmas time to criminals who meet certain conditions. However, Temer drew criticism last week when he broadened those conditions those convicted of corruption related crimes and granted them pardons.
