Roku Partners With TCL On New TVs, Hands-Free Speakers

Description

Roku is making moves in the electronics world. Last week the company announced it would enter into the virtual assistant market, partnering with Chinese electronics manufacturer TCL. Instead of developing its own wireless speaker to compete with Google Home or Amazon Echo, as previously rumored, Roku's strategy is to make its assistant portable to third-party devices.

At last year’s CES, all the major TV manufacturers made it clear that the future would be televised in 4K. Nvidia, Amazon, Roku, and TiVo all came to market with their own 4K streaming boxes. And Roku, still our favorite player in the streaming game, is now baking its 4K streaming services, excellent discovery engine, and easy interface into TCL’s newest 4K TVs. The new TCL 4K Roku TV will include a Feed alert system and voice-search capabilities. But it’s unknown whether the new TCL set’s hardware specs and features will fully match those of the high-powered Roku 4 box. Roku has also announced it is working with TCL on a reference design for Roku-powered HDR services. According to Roku, it’ll be able to handle both Dolby Vision and HDR10 content, as well.
