Surgeons in the northern Indian city of Amritsar say they have successfully removed 40 knives from a man's stomach. Natasha Howitt reports.
One Indian man had such a strong craving for knives that he ate 40 of them over a period of two months. Eventually, the pain in his stomach grew unbearable and he began to lose lots of weight, he decided to go to the hospital in Amritsar, India. The man, a policeman named Surjeet Singh, absolutely baffled the doctors when an ultrasound revealed his medical condition - the 40 knives that he had swallowed were still just lying in his gut.

A total of 152 foreign metal objects were taken out of a 74-year-old woman’s stomach in Ulan-Ude on Christmas Day. Remarkably, the woman's oesophageal walls did not suffer major damage. Doctors suspect that neurological problems caused the patient to ingest the metal, and have recommended a psychiatric evaluation.
