It is unknown just how many people were in their homes and minding their own business when the blast occurred, authorities have not given out information regarding the amount of people still trapped beneath the rubble of what used to be home sweet home. According to Andrei Bocharov, the Governor of the Volgograd Region, the gas explosion in the four-story residential building occured as a result of a damaged pipeline, which reportedly occurred when construction workers tried to access the pipe without complying with safety standards. The rescue operation is ongoing.

  • Gas Explosion Which Blew Hole in Russian High Rise Captured on CCTV

    CCTV footage captured the moment a gas explosion ripped through a high-rise flat in the city of Ryazan, about 120 miles southeast of Moscow, in the early hours of Sunday, sending a huge boom through the neighborhood and a massive shower of concrete and debris on to cars parked below. A total of three people died and more than dozens were injured in the incident. The blast caused structural damage to the top floors of the 11-story flat. More than 70 people were placed in a temporary shelter set in a nearby school. An investigation into what caused the explosion is currently underway.
