Italy Government Calls Confidence Vote on Election Law

Description

The Italian government said on Tuesday it would put a new electoral law to a confidence vote in parliament to push through a reform Prime Minister Matteo Renzi says will reduce political deadlock by ensuring that elections produce clear winners. The announcement by Institutional Reform Minister Maria Elena Boschi prompted shouts of anger from opposition benches, which accuse Renzi of a power grab with the planned law, one of the government's chief reform priorities.
