An incredibly well-preserved ancient artwork, a detailed and colorful wall frieze showing two fanged beasts facing each other, was discovered under layers of mud and rock near the Peruvian capital Lima. Astonishingly, Peruvian archeologists have confirmed that polychrome friezes, discovered at Huaca Garagay archeological site near Lima's San Martin de Porres district on Thursday, are over 3,500 years old as determined by carbon dating. The monuments and walls are thought to have been built by the ancient Chavin people.
A 250-year old waistcoat that once belonged to Captain James Cook was showcased at Aalders Auctions in Sydney on Monday. The unique piece of history is expected to fetch up to $1.1 million when it goes under the hammer this weekend. The embroidered silk waistcoat has attracted plenty of interest from both overseas and local collectors, according to Julian Aalders from Aalders Auctions.
