Joseph LaVorgna is the chief economist at the National Economic Council, and is an economic adviser to the Trump administration. And according to Business Insider, LaVorgna on Friday said he felt there was no rush to release a second coronavirus stimulus package. LaVorgna said that despite a disappointing Friday jobs report, he doesn't 'believe the recovery at the moment is in jeopardy.' On Friday, the jobs report that said 10.7 million Americans were unemployed in November. Congress is considering a $908 billion stimulus proposal after months of negotiations. It does not include a $1,200 direct payment.
When COVID-19 reached the US, the Centers for Disease Control and Protection tracked data related to its spread. However, President Donald Trump's coronavirus task force wrested control from the CDC, with the launch of HHS Protect. The main pandemic data tracking system is run by the Department of Health and Human Services. Federal and state officials use HHS Protect’s data to assess the burden of disease across the country and allocate scarce resources, from medicines to PPE. The problem is, HHS Protect’s data often diverge dramatically from those collected by other sources, including hospitals, states, and federal agencies. And according to Science Magazine, the data also varies from the apparent reality on the ground. A CDC internal analysis completed this month shows HHS Protect's data problems are a national problem. The US reportedly surpassed 103,000 COVID-19 new daily infections on Wednesday. The COVID-19 Tracking Project reported the cases, according to Business Insider. Experts have warned the US is entering the "deadliest" wave of the pandemic as cold weather sets in. People have begun hunkering down indoors but close to 9.5 million Americans are already infected. Adding to that, over 233,650 have died from the mysterious virus. The new 103,000 cases is the highest single-day count so far. However, health experts and medical officials warn that the most deadly wave is still yet to come.
The FBI categorizes white supremacy underneath a broader category, called 'racially motivated violent extremism.' The National Defense Authorization Act required the FBI to report on US domestic terrorism, and how it and the Department of Homeland Security counter it. But according to Business Insider, the report, which was due in June 2020, is now four months overdue. The FBI says one part of the legally mandated report is being reviewed by other agencies; the other is incomplete. The agency blames the pandemic. However, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson says he thinks the delay is due to something else entirely. Rep.
