The Q3 45 TFSI e and the Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e mark the first step into the world of electrified Q models from Audi. Their technology package is very similar to the A3 45 TFSI e: The 1.4 TFSI cooperates with a permanently excited synchronous machine (PSM) that outputs 85 kW of power and 330 Nm (243.4 lb-ft) of torque. Together, the two motors generate 180 kW (245 PS) of system output and 400 Nm (295.02 lb-ft) of system torque. Both the Q3 45 TFSI e and the Sportback take 7.6 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62.1 mph), and both models reach a top speed of 210 km/h (130.5 mph). In the NEDC cycle, the Q3 45 TFSI e consumes 1.7 to 1.4 liters of fuel per 100 km (138.4 to 168.0 US mpg) (39 to 32 grams of CO2(62.8 to 51.5 g/mi)). The Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e records the same values of 1.7 to 1.4 liters of fuel per 100 km (138.4 to 168.0 US mpg) (38 to 33 grams of CO2(61.2 to 53.1 g/mi)). Both compact SUVs can cover up to 61 km (37.9 mi) in the NEDC powered purely by electricity. In the WLTP, the distance is 51 km (31.7 mi) for the Q3 45 TFSI e and 50 km (31.07 mi) for the Q3 Sportback 45 TFSI e.
Audi's first goal with its PHEV models is to offer a driving experience that inspires confidence. Its propulsion concept provides high efficiency and high energy recovery power. As a result, a large part of the daily commutes can be covered only with electricity and zero local emissions. The electric motor provides additional thrust when accelerating or when there is a great need for charging. If the driver steps on the accelerator firmly, the interaction between this engine and the gasoline engine creates a powerful impulse. When accelerating from a low speed, the electric motor intervenes in the tenths of a second that the turbocharger needs to generate pressure. By driving at constant speeds, it can operate at times like an electric generator, shifting the load level of the TFSI to ranges where it is most efficient.
The new Audi A3 Sportback has a sporty and taut road stance. The front section is dominated by a wide, hexagonal Singleframe with a honeycomb grille. It accentuates the dynamic character of the premium compact car just as clearly as the large, angular air inlets whose depth gives them a sculptural effect.The shoulder line runs in a wedge shape from the headlights to the rear lights, making the Audi A3 Sportback appear longer. The surface below it falls inward, accentuating the quattro blisters and highlighting the body shoulder. With its concave side, the A3 Sportback is showcasing a completely new element of the Audi design. This creates an intensive play of light and shadow, which is mainly due to the strong contour in the sill area. The lower body line is drawn upward again before it reaches the rear wheel arch. This makes it appear particularly dynamic.The heavily inclined C-pillars also give the compact five-door car a forward thrust. They are virtually squatting on the rear wheels. A long roof edge spoiler provides shade for the rear window, making it appear particularly flat - this effect makes the rear end with its three-dimensional design appear extremely wide. This impression is reinforced by the circumferential shoulder line, the wedge-shaped rear lights, the implied air outlets at the wheel arches, the diffuser insert, and the trapezoidal tailpipe trims.
