Water cannon, grenades, pushbacks and fence breaching as tensions escalate on Belarus-Poland border

Description

Tensions that have been building along the Poland,Belarus border for weeks spilled over into violence on Tuesday. Polish border guards used water cannon against migrants on the Belarus side of the frontier. Warsaw says the people were armed with gas grenades, supplied by Belarus.

    Images released by Polish Police show the area along the border with Belarus close to the border town of Kuznica which has been entirely cleared of migrant encampments. Some 2,000 migrants who were living in freezing conditions at the border have been moved to a nearby warehouse. The West accuses Belarus of artificially creating the crisis by bringing in would-be migrants, mostly from the Middle East, and taking them to the border with promises of an easy crossing into the EU.
