Entente Cordiale: 'The Royal Family remains attached to' tight Franco-British relations

Description

As FRANCE 24's Rochelle FERGUSON BOUYAHI explains, King Charles "has been preparing for this role for decades now. And so he's well versed in what needs to be done." Paul Thomson, Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party's Paris Section joins FRANCE 24 and describes King Charles "as someone who has a voracious intellectual curiosity. He's a great reader, he's well informed. And because of his former stature as Prince of Wales, he had access to many knowledgeable and influential people, so he's very well-informed on many subjects locally but also internationally." Mr. Thomson asserts that "he's been able to really prepare himself for it." One way King Charles is already embarking on a completely new path from the monarchy, explains Mr, Thomson, is by expressing his hope to the nation "that the monarchy would be able to inspire debate," something Mr. Thomson finds to be "noteworthy." But he adds, "I don't think the Queen probably would've come out with a statement like that or a formulation like that." And, finally, with regards to France, King Charles III is expected "to keep this special relationship." And Mr. Thomson did point out that this is actually nothing new: "In the 19th century, it was very much the case."

However, Elle reports they are expected not to, in order to remain apolitical. In August, Markle spoke to Marie Claire magazine to talk about why voting is so important to her. She quoted Kate Sheppard, a leader in New Zealand's suffragist movement. 'Do not think your single vote does not matter much. The rain that refreshes the parched ground is made up of single drops.'
