The first generation Yaris became the first Toyota to be named European Car of the Year, in 2000. That accolade was matched by the Toyota Vitz (the model’s name in Japan) which won the Japan Car of the Year title. Since that impressive start, each Yaris generation has been shortlisted for the European Car of the Year with the current model successfully claiming the award in 2021.The third generation Yaris has the distinction of being the first B-segment model to offer customers a full hybrid electric powertrain, a significant step forward in Toyota’s mission to make its super-efficient technology available to as wide a market as possible. Today, Yaris is exclusively a hybrid model in the UK market.The current, fourth generation Yaris has demonstrated its ability to adapt to changing customer needs, its “family” growing to include the widely acclaimed GR Yaris pure performance sports car in 2020 and the high-riding Yaris Cross urban crossover SUV in 2021.From the launch of the original model in 1999 to the end of February 2023, cumulative sales of Yaris family models in Europe had reached 5,155,506; these include 715,845 sold in the UK. In 2022, Yaris accounted for more than one third of Toyota’s total European sales and eight per cent of the market segment; in the UK the proportions for the hybrid hatchback were greater still, at 21.7 and 10 per cent, respectively.
A new addition to the family of the world bestseller: With the new Corolla Cross, Toyota is presenting a practical compact SUV for the whole family. The new model gives the brand an even stronger presence in the European C segment and the widest range of SUVs across all segments. In addition, the Corolla family is now complete: With the new Corolla Cross, the classic hatchback model and the Touring Sports estate variant, there really is “a Corolla for everyone”. Sales in Germany will start on November 25, 2022 at prices from 38,600 euros. The 2.0-liter hybrid version with front or all-wheel drive is available at market launch, while the 1.8-liter hybrid, which is always driven by the front wheels, will be available from the second quarter of 2023.The Toyota Corolla Cross is based on the proven GA-C platform (Global Architecture) and offers all the features that have made the Corolla the best-selling car model in the world: Toyota has sold more than 50 million units in 55 years and twelve model generations . With the new Corolla Cross, the brand intends to further expand its presence in the highly competitive European C segment. Toyota aims to sell 400,000 units per year worldwide, which corresponds to a nine percent segment share by 2025.An advanced hybrid drive, advanced connectivity and new safety features: the Corolla Cross sets new standards in many areas. The compact SUV's Toyota T-Mate system combines the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense safety technologies with other active driving and parking assistance systems to make driving easier and safer and to protect all vehicle occupants and other road users in various scenarios.
