In episode #4 of his Shed Tech series, Cyclist's Tech Editor Sam Challis runs through the highlights of Campagnolo's Ekar 1x 13-speed gravel specific groupset. Ekar is the latest offering from the Italian groupset master and serves as its first foray away from the tarmac since its dip into mountain bike groupsets back in the late eighties. Campagnolo claims Ekar is the lightest 1x gravel groupset at 2,385g and at around £1500 is pretty competitive price-wise too. However Ekar's true headline-grabbing feature is its 13-speed cassette that includes both 9- and 10-tooth sprockets. They have necessitated the introduction of a new freehub standard, called N3W, which Campagnolo will be rolling out as standard for all its future groupsets and wheelsets so 13-speed may well be coming to a Campagnolo road groupset near you soon.
