Ten people have died and tens of thousands evacuated after wildfires raged through northern California on Monday night, prompting a state of emergency. The inferno, which has been exacerbated by hot weather and high winds, has destroyed at least 1,500 properties across 90,000 acres in the wine-making region. Hundreds have been admitted to local hospitals for burn wounds while emergency services hotlines are flooded with distress calls about injuries and missing persons.
A major firefighting operation is underway in southern France near the port city of Marseille where several firefighters have been injured battling blazes that have burnt over 8,000 acres. Mana Rabiee reports.
