Aid agencies and NGOs have appealed to the international community for help but only a handful of countries have publicly offered support, neighboring China and Pakistan are among them.
Morocco announced the launch of an aid programme on Thursday to support and rehouse the residents of about 50,000 buildings damaged in last week's devastating earthquake. The number of people left without homes by the quake, which has devastated Marrakesh and numerous villages in Morocco's Atlas mountain region, is not known.
The powerful quake hit the eastern Paktika province on the border with Pakistan, and authorities fear many more people are trapped or dead in the rubble of their homes.
98 people have been confirmed dead after a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia''s resort island of Lombok. The second powerful quake in a week has sent many tourists running for home, even though so far no foreigners are reported among the dead. The death toll is expected to rise once the rubble of 13,000 flattened homes is cleared.
