Emergency crews battle a fire as people flee nearby homes after Russian bombings on the eastern city of Kharkiv sparked a massive fire. IMAGES
With nowhere to go, the residents that left behind, are trying to survive without gas, water, and with severe food shortages. On top of that temperatures are below freezing in the cold of winter.
Ukraine's embattled frontline town of Avdiivka is in danger of being captured by Russian forces, the White House says, urging the US House to pass vital military aid for Kyiv. "Avdiivka is at risk of falling into Russian control," National Security Council spokesman John Kirby tells reporters during a White House briefing. SOUNDBITE
During a press conference on his two-day state visit to Sweden, French President Emmanuel Macron says that "the cost of a Russian victory is too high for all of us" and that Europe must support Ukraine "whatever it takes, whatever it costs." SOUNDBITE
Firefighters put out a fire following a Russian drone strike in Ukraine's Kharkiv, which hit civilian infrastructure, including a building of the Kharkiv College of Transport Technology. There was no immediate report of casualties. IMAGES
Images show smoke billowing over the frontline town of Avdiivka. Ukraine has in recent weeks reported intense Russian shelling of Avdiivka, which lies just north of the Moscow-controlled city of Donetsk that was seized by separatist forces in 2014. IMAGES
