G5 Sahel leaders hold crisis summit in response to deadly jihadist attack in Niger

Description

Promising to increase coordination among themselves and for more support from other countries, the leaders of the G5 Sahel nations held a summit days after 71 soldiers were killed at their military base in Niger. The G5 is made up of Niger, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Chad and Mali. Thousands of soldiers and civilians have been killed in attacks by jihadists across that region in the last number of years.
